Mikel Arteta uncertain about mindset of "shocked" Arsenal players ahead of Everton clash

Arsenal prepares to face Everton in a Premier League match on Friday night, but the club has had a difficult week away from the pitch.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that he has no idea how his "shocked" players are feeling ahead of their match against Everton on Friday.

The Basque coach was referring to the past week's events surrounding his club's participation in, and subsequent removal from, a proposed European Super League.

The Gunners were one of 12 founding clubs for the proposal, but they withdrew from it on Tuesday night, less than 48 hours after declaring their engagement, along with the rest of England's so-called 'Big Six' clubs.

Arsenal, like the other English clubs competing in the European Super League - Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham - faced a barrage of criticism from their own fans.

Despite the club's concession, fans have continued to express their dissatisfaction with the club's ownership, especially with Stan Kroenke.

The club is led by an American billionaire businessman who, like the Glazer family at Manchester United and FSG - led by John Henry - at Liverpool, is said to have been among the most enthusiastic supporters of the concept of a European Super League.

Arsenal has not played since the club's initial announcement, with their most recent match a frustrating 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Fulham at home.

'I don't know,' Arteta said when asked about the players' mental condition during Thursday's pre-match press conference. We attempted to communicate with them, and Vinai explained what had occurred to them all, so hopefully, they are safe. 'Going through it was a huge shock for all of us.'

Despite reaching the Europa League semi-finals, where they will face former manager Unai Emery of Villarreal, the club has had a disappointing domestic season.

Arsenal is currently in ninth place in the Premier League, three points behind Everton, who have played one game less.
