MANCHESTER UNITED is trying to sign free agent Christian Eriksen this summer.
Christian Eriksen is a target for Manchester United this summer. And this comes three years after the Danish international reportedly rejected a move to Old Trafford due to worries of becoming the next Juan Mata. Any transfer this summer is unlikely, especially with Manchester United's Premier League rivals-all approach.
Manchester United are trying to add additional creativity to their midfield, especially after the free transfer of Paul Pogba.
Earlier this week, it was claimed that the Red Devils submitted a contract offer to the Denmark international in the hopes of gaining his signature.
If United does sign Eriksen, it will be a surprise.
With the 30-year-contract old's with Tottenham expiring at the moment, the Red Devils saw a chance.
United attempted to sign Eriksen but was unsuccessful, with the playmaker remaining at Spurs until January 2020, when he will join Inter Milan.
In the aftermath, The Athletic released a piece claiming that the midfielder had reservations about joining the Red Devils because of how they had treated Mata.
Mata arrived from Chelsea in the January transfer window of 2014, during David Moyes' tenure as manager.
But no United manager got the most out of the Spain international, who was in and out of the team under Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Solskjaer had only been Mata's boss for a few months at the time.
Eriksen, on the other hand, was concerned that he might end up like Mata, who was frequently played out of position.
Mata faded into obscurity and had been for some time before his departure this summer.
It remains to be seen whether Eriksen has changed his mind.
Erik ten Hag has an excellent relationship with the Dane, whom he permitted to train with Ajax before moving to Brentford.
But United isn't the only club interested in signing the 30-year-old, who scored once and assisted four times for the Bees last season.
Tottenham is aiming to re-sign Eriksen, especially now that they have access to the Champions League.
Brentford is still keen to keep the midfielder, despite the fact that he is now officially a free agent.
Leicester, Brighton, and Everton have also surfaced as possible suitors.
Meanwhile, former Rangers and Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish believes Eriksen would be a fantastic addition for United.
"It's a no-brainer for me." "I'd take Christian in a heartbeat if they could get him," he remarked.
"I still have the impression that United is nickel and diming a little bit." With the management, there have been some players connected to Man United that I think: 'No.'
"I really don't see any development for Manchester United in that regard when I see some of the names associated with them."
"Recruitment will be the most challenging aspect of Ten Hag's career and life."
"If he and the recruitment team don't bring in the players who can push Man United to the next level, it'll be the same old, same old."
"We've seen it for the last five, six years, or even farther back, since Sir Alex Ferguson."
