Keep up with all of today's Manchester United transfer rumors, injury updates, and breaking news following the club's Youth Cup victory.
On Wednesday night, Manchester United's U18s won the FA Youth Cup.
In the first half, United took the lead through captain Rhys Bennett, but Nottingham Forest equalized on the stroke of halftime. United reacted to that setback with two goals from Alejandro Garnacho in front of 67,492 fans at Old Trafford.
The last time United won the Youth Cup was in 2011. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, and Ravel Morrison were among those that played, but Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, Dan Gore, and Charlie McNeill are no longer with the club.
After a fantastic season headed by manager Travis Binnion, United extended their rich history in the renowned league.
United has been connected with midfielder Frenkie de Jong this week, according to the Manchester Evening News, and the club has contacted Barcelona regarding De Jong's potential availability.
De Jong has a deal with Barcelona until 2026 after joining Ajax for £65 million in 2019.
'Make it make sense!' - United fans enraged after Cristiano Ronaldo fails to win the award
A number of Manchester United fans were taken aback after Cristiano Ronaldo was omitted from the list of nominees for Premier League Player of the Season.
The Portuguese international, who joined United from Juventus last summer, has scored 24 goals this season in all competitions, including 18 in the Premier League. He has been a bright spot in an otherwise poor season for the club.
This season, Ronaldo has more often than not stepped up when United needed someone to take a game by the scruff of the neck or add a moment of brilliance. He scored hat-tricks against Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City to secure 3-2 victories when United otherwise would have lost.
OPINION: John Murtough has a plan to resurrect Manchester United
Manchester United may be chastised by competitors for treating a Youth Cup victory like a senior honor, but there is a genuine reason why success in midweek might provide a model for the first team to follow in the years ahead.
As the most successful side in the tournament's long history, it can be unwise to assume the United is entitled to future success merely because of its past triumphs.
This hazardous complacency has already cost United in the past when the club was penalized for losing sight of the ball and assuming that more bright youngsters would emerge from the legendary academy system.
