Arsenal's search for a new attacking midfielder has been aided by the rumor that Lyon star Houssem Aouar is holding out for a move to The Emirates.
According to The Sun, this is the case. According to their estimate, Aouar would cost Arsenal roughly £25 million, which is much less than any move for James Maddison.
Arsenal would most likely pay more than £60 million for Maddison, and Aouar's representatives are thought to be perplexed by the Gunners' apparent preference for Aouar over Maddison.
Arsenal made a serious bid for Aouar last year, but when the transaction fell through, it appeared that Arsenal moved on to other targets. It all started with Martin Odegaard's loan move.
Odegaard is unlikely to return to the club, thus Arsenal has been looking at other options. Aouar and Maddison have been the most closely associated.
DON'T MISS:
Maddison will cost nearly three times as much as Aouar, but he will be able to hit the ground running and perform in the Premier League.
We've seen many French players flourish in the English game, but there's also a long list of those who have suffered. Last season, Aouar scored 7 goals and created 3 for his teammates in Ligue 1, however, he was inconsistent throughout the season.
Aouar would undoubtedly be more of a risk than Maddison, but the sum Arsenal would have to spend would be significantly less.
The Gunners are expected to sign another midfielder this month, but only time will tell who the club's main goal is.
