Arsenal intends to launch a €30 million (£26 million) bid for Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, but it will fall short of the asking price.
According to Globo Esporte, the Gunners are willing to spend £26 million to bring Guimaraes to North London.
Lyon, on the other hand, wants €40 million for the midfielder, which is almost £34 million.
Arsenal is not alone in their pursuit of Guimaraes, as German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in a raid on Lyon this month.
Guimaraes' contract with Lyon expires in three years, thus the club is under no urgent obligation to sell.
Last season, the 23-year-old appeared in 33 Ligue 1 games, scoring three goals and providing one assist while playing as a central or defensive midfielder.

Guimaraes is now on international service with Brazil at the Olympic Games, so any agreement may not be finalized until he returns to France next week.
Edu, Arsenal's sporting director, has long loved his compatriot Guimaraes, originally eyeing him for a move to the Emirates Stadium in 2019.
If Edu is keen to bring Guimaraes to Arsenal this summer – which may come as a surprise given the fact that Granit Xhaka is expected to stay – he will have to dig a little deeper.
